Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth; it will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder, mixing well.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Milk

Add the powdered sugar and whole milk, and beat until smooth and spreadable. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake.

Serving Directions

  1. 10

    Serve the Cake

Cut the chocolate cake into slices and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
