Method

Preparation of Cake Batter

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust them with cocoa powder.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and semisweet chocolate together, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

In the bowl with the melted chocolate mixture, add the eggs and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.

Baking

  1. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins in the preheated oven and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 7

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes. Run a knife around the edges to loosen the cakes.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Invert each ramekin onto a plate, carefully lifting to release the cake. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
