Method

Cottage Pie Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meat Filling

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, sauté until onions are translucent.

  2. 2

    Cook the Ground Beef

Add the minced beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Vegetables and Seasoning

Stir in the chopped carrots, peas, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 15 minutes.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Mashed Potatoes

While the meat is simmering, boil the chopped potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.

  5. 5

    Mash the Potatoes

Add butter and milk to the potatoes, and mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Pie

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Spread the meat filling into a baking dish, then top with the mashed potatoes, smoothing it out with a spatula.

  7. 7

    Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned.

  8. 8

    Serve

Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Cottage Pie!
