Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and large eggs until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly add the melted chocolate and butter mixture to the egg and sugar mixture, stirring continuously until fully combined.

  5. 5

    Add Flour and Seasoning

Sift the all-purpose flour into the chocolate mixture, then add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake the Cakes

Place the ramekins in the preheated oven and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm and the center is softly set.

  3. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes. This will help the cakes settle before serving.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve the Cakes

Run a knife around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cakes. Invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently tap to release the cake. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
