Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Make honey syrup

If you don't have honey syrup ready, combine 2 parts honey with 1 part very hot water. Stir until smooth and cool to room temperature before using. Measure 0.5 oz for the recipe.

  2. 2

    Mix cocktail

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice (about 1 cup). Add 2 oz Maker's Mark bourbon, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz honey syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the shaker.

  3. 3

    Shake

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the exterior of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the drink to the right balance.

  4. 4

    Strain

Place a large clean rocks glass on the bar, add a single large ice cube. Double-strain the shaken mixture (use a Hawthorne strainer and fine mesh if available) into the glass over the large ice cube.

  5. 5

    Garnish & serve

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the cocktail by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a firm bend, then rub the peel on the rim and drop it into the drink. Serve immediately.
