Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a bowl, combine buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dredging Station

In a shallow dish, add the all-purpose flour. This will be used to coat the marinated chicken.

  3. 3

    Fry the Chicken

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and dredge it in flour, ensuring an even coating. Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for about 5-7 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Hot Sauce

In a separate bowl, combine the Nashville hot sauce with a little bit of the frying oil (about 2-3 tablespoons) to create a sauce for basting.

  5. 5

    Baste the Chicken

Once the chicken is cooked and drained, brush or toss it in the Nashville hot sauce mixture until fully coated.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Place the hot chicken on a sandwich bun, add pickles, and coleslaw if desired. Top with the other half of the bun.
