Make the Chocolate Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.

Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Assemble the Torte
Once the cakes are cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream and top with cherries. Place the second cake on top and repeat the process.

Garnish
Top the torte with the remaining whipped cream and sprinkle chocolate shavings on top.

Slice and serve the Black Forest Torte chilled.
