Cake and Filling

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Chocolate Cake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

  7. 7

    Prepare the Filling

In a separate bowl, whip the cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.

  8. 8

    Assemble the Torte

Once the cakes are cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream and top with cherries. Place the second cake on top and repeat the process.

  9. 9

    Garnish

Top the torte with the remaining whipped cream and sprinkle chocolate shavings on top.

  10. 10

    Serve

Slice and serve the Black Forest Torte chilled.
