Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten eggs. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead and Rise

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape the Doughnuts

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into circles using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters. Place the cut doughnuts on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.

  4. 4

    Fry the Doughnuts

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  5. 5

    Fill and Dust

Once cooled slightly, use a pastry bag fitted with a small round tip to fill each doughnut with jam or fruit filling. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
