Gulasch

Bread Dumplings

Method

Gulasch Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and diced bell pepper, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until softened.

  2. 2

    Cook the Mushrooms

Add the sliced mushrooms to the pot. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are browned and their moisture has evaporated.

  3. 3

    Add Spices and Broth

Stir in the smoked paprika, and then pour in the vegetable broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  4. 4

    Finish with Cream

Reduce the heat to low, and stir in the heavy cream. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Let it simmer gently for another 5 minutes before serving.

Bread Dumpling Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Bread Mixture

In a bowl, soak the cubed stale bread in milk for about 10 minutes until softened. Then add the eggs, flour, salt, and chopped parsley. Mix well until a dough forms.

  2. 6

    Form the Dumplings

With wet hands, form the mixture into balls about the size of a golf ball.

  3. 7

    Cook the Dumplings

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully add the dumplings and cook for about 15 minutes, or until they float to the surface and are cooked through.

  4. 8

    Serve

Remove the dumplings from the water with a slotted spoon and serve them alongside the creamy mushroom gulasch.
