Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Dough Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the water, vegetable oil, and vinegar, then mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Wrap in plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Apples

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are well coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Breadcrumb Mixture

In a small pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the breadcrumbs and stir until they are golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. 5

    Combine Filling Ingredients

In the bowl with the apples, add the raisins and the toasted breadcrumbs. Mix well to combine.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 6

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the rested dough into a large rectangle as thin as possible without tearing it.

  2. 7

    Add the Filling

Spread the apple filling evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  3. 8

    Roll and Seal the Strudel

Starting from one end, carefully roll the dough over the filling to form a log. Pinch the edges to seal.

  4. 9

    Bake the Strudel

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the strudel seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the top with melted butter. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.

  5. 10

    Serve

Allow the strudel to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
