Bagel Ingredients

Method

Bagel Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Then, add salt and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball.

  3. 3

    First Rise

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  4. 4

    Shape the Bagels

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole in the center with your finger to form a bagel shape.

  5. 5

    Second Rise

Place the shaped bagels on a floured surface, cover them, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  6. 6

    Boil the Bagels

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side.

  7. 7

    Bake the Bagels

Place the boiled bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Serve with Cream Cheese

Let the bagels cool slightly before serving with cream cheese spread on top.
