Falafel and Accompaniments

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Falafel Mixture

In a food processor, combine the canned chickpeas, parsley, garlic, cumin, coriander, baking powder, sesame seeds, flour, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture is well combined but still slightly chunky. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Shape the Falafel

Once chilled, form the mixture into small balls or patties, about the size of a golf ball.

  3. 3

    Fry the Falafel

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the falafel in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Greek Salad

In a bowl, combine the diced cucumber, tomato, red onion, lemon juice, and olive oil. Toss to mix and set aside.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Plate

On a serving plate, place the cooked rice, add 5 pieces of falafel, a generous serving of hummus, and top with the Greek salad.
