Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Filling

In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

  2. 2

    Layer the Filo

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Lay one sheet of filo in the dish and brush with butter. Repeat this process, layering 8 sheets of filo.

  3. 3

    Add the Nut Mixture

Spread half of the nut mixture evenly over the layered filo.

  4. 4

    Continue Layering

Layer 4 more sheets of filo, brushing each with butter, then add the remaining nut mixture, followed by 4 more filo sheets, brushing each with butter.

  5. 5

    Final Layer

Top with the remaining filo sheets (4 sheets), brushing each with butter. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.

  6. 6

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water, sugar, and honey in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  8. 8

    Syrup the Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and pour the cooled syrup over it. Let it sit for at least 4 hours or overnight to soak in.
