Method
Fondue Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Cheese
Grate the white cheddar cheese using a box grater or food processor. This helps it melt more easily.
- 2
Mince the Garlic
Finely mince the garlic cloves to release their flavor.
- 3
Mix Cornstarch
In a small bowl, combine the grated cheese with cornstarch and toss until the cheese is evenly coated. This will help prevent clumping.
- 4
Heat Wine and Garlic
In a medium saucepan, add the dry white wine and minced garlic. Heat over medium heat until it begins to simmer, about 3-4 minutes.
- 5
Add Cheese Mixture
Gradually add the cheese and cornstarch mixture to the simmering wine, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon until melted and smooth.
- 6
Season the Fondue
Stir in lemon juice, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Serving
- 7
Prepare Dippers
While the fondue is heating, slice the green apples into wedges and arrange them on a platter. Cut the Bavarian pretzels into manageable pieces.
- 8
Serve Fondue
Transfer the melted cheese fondue into a fondue pot or a heatproof serving dish. Serve immediately with the prepared pretzels and apple slices for dipping.
