Method

Brownie Base

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

    Melt the Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over low heat.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugars

Once the butter is melted, remove it from heat and stir in 1.5 cups granulated sugar and 0.5 cups brown sugar until well combined.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add 4 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 2 tsp of vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder, and 0.5 tsp salt.

  6. 6

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.

  7. 7

    Bake the Brownies

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Chocolate Ganache Topping

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

While the brownies are baking, heat 0.5 cups of heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  2. 9

    Melt the Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for a couple of minutes to soften.

  3. 10

    Mix the Ganache

After a couple of minutes, stir the mixture until smooth and fully combined.

  4. 11

    Top the Brownies

Once the brownies are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Pour the ganache over the brownies, spreading it evenly.

  5. 12

    Cool and Serve

Allow the ganache to set for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
