Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Wash the fresh tomatoes thoroughly under cold water. Remove the stems and any blemishes, then chop them into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Chop the Onion and Garlic

Peel and finely chop the medium onion. Peel the garlic cloves and mince them or use a garlic press.

  3. 3

    Chop the Basil

Wash the fresh basil leaves and pat them dry. Stack the leaves, roll them up, and slice them into thin ribbons.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent. Then add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add the Tomatoes

Add the chopped tomatoes to the skillet. Stir well and let them cook for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the mixture to simmer and the tomatoes to break down.

  3. 6

    Season the Mixture

Season the tomato mixture with salt, black pepper, and balsamic vinegar. Stir to combine, then cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Basil and Serve

Remove the skillet from the heat and fold in the chopped basil. Serve the dish hot, either as a side, in pasta, or on toasted bread.
