Preparing the Patty

Season the Beef
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.

Form the Patties
Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick.

Add Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover to melt the cheese.

Prepare the Buns
While the cheese is melting, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, and then the top half of the bun.
