Method
Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Rinse the pork shoulder under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- 2
Season the Pork
In a bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Rub the seasoning mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- 3
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a smoker or slow cooker. Add apple cider vinegar and water. If using a smoker, smoke at 225°F for about 8 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 195°F. If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the cooker and let it rest for 30 minutes. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
BBQ Sauce Preparation
- 5
Combine Sauce Ingredients
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
- 6
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
