Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

    Mix dry ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine wet ingredients

In another bowl, whisk the melted butter and eggs together until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine wet and dry

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

  5. 5

    Bake the crust

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven.

Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare the filling

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, softened cream cheese, vanilla extract, and eggs until smooth.

  2. 7

    Spread filling

Pour the filling over the baked crust and spread evenly.

  3. 8

    Bake the filling

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 25 minutes or until the filling is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.

Topping Preparation

  1. 9

    Add toppings

Remove the baking pan from the oven and sprinkle mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and chopped pecans evenly over the top.

  2. 10

    Broil

Place the pan back in the oven under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching closely until the marshmallows are golden brown.

  3. 11

    Cool and serve

Let the Mississippi Mud cool at room temperature before cutting into squares and serving.
