Method

For the Hamburger Patties

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

For the Gravy

  1. 4

    Make the Roux

In the same skillet used for the patties, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until it turns a light golden color.

  2. 5

    Add the Broth

Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to stir until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 6

    Season the Gravy

Add salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well and remove from heat.

For Serving

  1. 7

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Toast the bread slices if desired. Place a hamburger patty on each slice of bread. Top with cheese if using.

  2. 8

    Add the Gravy

Spoon the hot gravy generously over the hamburger patties.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve the hot hamburger sandwiches immediately, with additional gravy on the side if desired.
