Hazelnut Shaft Ingredients

Method

Preparation Directions

1

Prepare the Hazelnuts

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the hazelnuts on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until golden and fragrant. Remove from the oven and let cool. Once cooled, chop roughly.

2

Melt the Chocolate

In a heatproof bowl over simmering water, melt the dark chocolate and butter together, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

3

Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Slowly add the melted chocolate mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.

4

Combine Dry Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

5

Add Hazelnuts

Gently fold in the chopped hazelnuts into the batter.

6

Bake

Pour the batter into a greased 9x9 inch baking pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

7

Cool and Serve

Allow the hazelnut shaft to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar and cut into squares to serve.
