Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into large meatballs, about 2 inches in diameter. Place them on a plate or tray.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Meat Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onion and Garlic

In the same skillet, add olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

  2. 5

    Add the Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 20-25 minutes, until the sauce thickens and the meatballs are cooked through.

Spaghetti

  1. 7

    Cook the Spaghetti

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add salt and spaghetti, and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 8

    Drain and Combine

Drain the spaghetti and return to the pot. Pour some of the meat sauce over the spaghetti and toss to combine.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve the Dish

Plate the spaghetti and top with the remaining meat sauce and meatballs. Serve hot, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.
