Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Make Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling Pizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest setting (usually around 475°F to 500°F or 245°C to 260°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
- 6
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. On a floured surface, stretch and shape each portion into a 12-inch round pizza base.
- 7
Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread 1/2 cup of crushed tomatoes on top of each pizza base. Tear the mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly over the sauce. Season with salt and black pepper.
- 8
Drizzle Olive Oil
Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over each topped pizza before baking.
- 9
Bake Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 10
Add Fresh Basil
Remove the pizza from the oven and scatter fresh basil leaves on top. Allow it to cool for a minute before slicing.
