Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead Dough
Mix until a dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to its highest setting (around 475°F to 500°F or 250°C).
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a round ball and let them rest for 15 minutes.
- 7
Roll Out the Dough
On a floured surface, use your hands or a rolling pin to stretch out the dough into a 12-inch round, keeping the edges slightly thicker for the crust.
- 8
Add Sauce and Cheese
Spread about ½ cup of tomato sauce over the base, leaving the edges clear. Tear the mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute evenly on top.
- 9
Season and Drizzle
Add salt and pepper to taste, then drizzle olive oil over the top. Add fresh basil leaves.
- 10
Bake Pizza
Transfer the pizza onto a baking stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 11
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot.
