Ingredients for Housemade French Fries

Method

Directions for Preparing Housemade French Fries

  1. 1

    Prep the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Potatoes

Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Carefully add a batch of potatoes to the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.

  5. 5

    Drain and Season

Remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still hot, season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the fries immediately, while hot and crispy.
