Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into quarters. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook the Potatoes

Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce to medium heat and let the potatoes simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Garlic

While the potatoes are cooking, peel the garlic cloves and mince them finely.

  4. 4

    Heat Butter and Cream

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Then, stir in the heavy cream and heat until warm.

  5. 5

    Mash the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them and return them to the pot. Pour the garlic butter mixture over the potatoes and mash them until smooth. Add more cream if desired for a creamier texture.

  6. 6

    Season and Serve

Season the mashed potatoes with salt and black pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped chives if desired and serve warm.
