Bagel Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Add the bread flour and salt, and mix until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 3
Shape the Bagels
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center with your finger and gently stretch to form a bagel shape.
- 4
Boil the Bagels
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side, then remove and place on a baking sheet.

- 6
Bake the Bagels
Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
