Grilled Octopus

Method

Preparation and Grilling

  1. 1

    Prepare the Octopus

Start by cleaning the octopus. Rinse it under cold water and remove the beak and ink sac if necessary. If the octopus is frozen, thaw it completely and rinse before use.

  2. 2

    Cook the Octopus

Fill a large pot with water, add a pinch of salt, and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add the octopus and reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook for about 45 minutes or until tender. You can test by piercing a thick part of a tentacle with a fork. When done, remove the octopus from the pot and let it cool.

  3. 3

    Marinate the Octopus

In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well. Cut the cooled octopus into manageable pieces (about 4-6 inches long) and add them to the marinade. Toss to coat well and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Make sure the grates are clean and lightly oiled to prevent sticking.

  5. 5

    Grill the Octopus

Place the marinated octopus pieces on the grill. Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until they have nice grill marks and are heated through. Keep an eye on them to avoid overcooking.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove the octopus from the grill and place it on a serving platter. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
