Preparation

Preparation

1. Wash the Broccoli

Rinse the broccoli florets under cold running water to remove any dirt or impurities.

2. Cut the Broccoli

Using a sharp knife, cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets, ensuring that they are roughly the same size for even cooking.

Steaming

3. Prepare the Steamer

Fill a pot with about 1-2 inches of water and place a steamer basket inside. The water should not touch the bottom of the basket.

4. Bring Water to a Boil

Cover the pot and bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.

5. Steam the Broccoli

Once the water is boiling, carefully add the broccoli florets to the steamer basket. Cover the pot and steam for about 4-5 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.

6. Check for Doneness

After 4-5 minutes, check the broccoli by piercing a floret with a fork. If it goes through easily, it is done. If not, continue to steam for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Serving

7. Season the Broccoli

Once steamed, carefully remove the broccoli from the steamer and transfer it to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, then sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste.

8. Serve Immediately

Toss the broccoli gently to coat it in the seasoning and serve hot as a side dish.
