Method

For the Biscuits

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Milk

Pour in the milk and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.

  6. 6

    Cut Biscuits

Using a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

For the Sausage Gravy

  1. 8

    Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and crumbled.

  2. 9

    Add Flour

Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

  3. 10

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and becomes creamy.

  4. 11

    Season the Gravy

Add salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste, stirring to combine.

  5. 12

    Serve

Serve the hot sausage gravy over the freshly baked biscuits.
