Queso Blanco

Tortilla Chips

Method

Queso Blanco

  1. 1

    Melt the Cheese

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the white American cheese and heavy cream. Stir continuously until the cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables and Seasoning

Stir in the diced jalapenos, diced red bell pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

  3. 3

    Finish with Cilantro

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the chopped fresh cilantro. Set aside to keep warm.

Tortilla Chips

  1. 4

    Prepare the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F or 175°C).

  2. 5

    Fry the Tortilla Chips

Cut each corn tortilla into 6 wedges. Working in batches, fry the tortilla wedges for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  3. 6

    Season the Chips

While the chips are still warm, sprinkle them with salt to taste.

Homemade Salsa

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, red onion, minced jalapeno, lime juice, chopped fresh cilantro, and salt. Mix well.

  2. 8

    Let it Rest

Allow the salsa to sit for at least 15 minutes at room temperature to let the flavors meld together.
