Cake Preparation

1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well until the batter is smooth.

4. Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, which is normal.

5. Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

6. Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

7. Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, cream the unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, mixing until well combined.

8. Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated and the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

9. Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
