Method

For the Beef Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, making them slightly larger than the burger buns to account for shrinkage during cooking.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

For the Cheeseburger Assembly

  1. 4

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash and dry the lettuce. Slice the tomato into thick rounds and thinly slice the onion.

  2. 5

    Toast the Buns

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  3. 6

    Assemble the Cheeseburger

On the bottom half of each burger bun, layer the lettuce, followed by the cooked beef patty with melted cheese. Top with tomato slices and onion rings. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then place the top half of the bun.

  4. 7

    Serve

Serve the cheeseburgers immediately while hot with your favorite side dishes.
