Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until smooth, about 10 minutes. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare Filling

In a bowl, mix ground pork, chopped Chinese cabbage, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside.

Assembly and Cooking

  1. 4

    Form Bao

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 5 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle, about 4 inches in diameter. Place a spoonful of filling in the center, fold the dough over, and pinch to seal.

  2. 5

    Steam Bao

Prepare a steamer and line it with parchment paper. Place the bao in the steamer, cover, and steam for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
