Preparation

1

Slice the beef

Thinly slice the beef sirloin steak against the grain into strips and set aside.

2

Prepare the vegetables

Clean and slice the green onions into 1-inch pieces. Remove the stems from the shiitake mushrooms and slice them. Peel and julienne the carrot. Chop the napa cabbage into bite-sized pieces.

3

Prepare the tofu (optional)

If using, drain the firm tofu and slice it into cubes.

Cooking

4

Make the sauce

In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sesame oil until the sugar is dissolved.

5

Stir-fry the beef

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.

6

Add vegetables

Add the green onions, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and napa cabbage to the skillet. Stir-fry for an additional 4-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

7

Add tofu

If using, add the cubed tofu to the skillet and gently stir to combine.

8

Pour the sauce

Pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables. Stir to coat everything evenly and simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Serving

9

Serve the dish

Serve the sukiyaki steak with cooked rice on the side. Enjoy!
