Steak Marinade

Pickled Red Onions

Method

Marinating the Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, brown sugar, and black pepper until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Steak

Place the steak in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish, pour the marinade over the steak, seal or cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

Pickling the Onions

  1. 3

    Prepare the Pickling Liquid

In a small saucepan, combine white vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.

  2. 4

    Pickle the Onions

Place the sliced red onions in a jar or bowl, pour the hot pickling liquid over the onions, and let them cool to room temperature before refrigerating for at least 1 hour.

Making the Chimichurri Sauce

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a food processor, combine chopped parsley, cilantro, minced garlic, red wine vinegar, olive oil, red pepper flakes, and salt.

  2. 6

    Blend the Sauce

Pulse until combined but still slightly chunky. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Making the Smoky Mayo

  1. 7

    Mix Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, smoked paprika, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth and well combined.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 8

    Grill the Steak

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and grill for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.

  2. 9

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 10

    Prepare the Bread

Slice the French bread in half lengthwise and lightly toast it if desired.

  2. 11

    Layer the Ingredients

Spread a generous layer of smoky mayo on both sides of the bread. Add shredded romaine lettuce, sliced steak, pickled red onions, and drizzle chimichurri sauce on top.

  3. 12

    Serve

Close the sandwich, slice into portions if desired, and serve immediately.
