Pasta

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for about 2 minutes until golden and bubbly.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens and bubbles gently, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate the Cheese

Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the cheddar and Gruyere cheeses until melted and smooth. Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and mustard powder. Mix well.

Combine and Bake

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Topping

In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, paprika, and melted butter until the crumbs are evenly coated.

  3. 7

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Allow the baked mac & cheese to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious side dish!
