Prepare the Okra
In a mixing bowl, combine sliced okra, beaten egg, and milk. Stir until well combined.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In another bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Coat the Okra
Add the okra mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until the okra is well coated.

Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (approximately 350°F or 175°C).

Fry the Okra
Carefully drop the coated okra into the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serve
Serve hot with your choice of homemade dipping sauce.
