Method

Preparation of the Patties

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties.

Grilling the Mushrooms

  1. 2

    Grill the Mushrooms

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant. Add the fresh mushrooms and sauté for 5-7 minutes until they are tender and golden brown. If using, add fresh thyme and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Cook the Beef Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip them over and place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patty is cooked to your desired doneness.

Assembling the Burgers

  1. 4

    Assemble the Montana Burgers

Toast the burger buns lightly if desired. Place a beef patty with melted Swiss cheese on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a mountain of grilled mushrooms, followed by lettuce, sliced tomatoes, ketchup, and mustard. Place the top half of the bun on each burger.
