Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Patty Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties.

Grilling the Onions

  1. 3

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the medium onion into thin rings.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Onions

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion rings and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning. Cook until they are soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.

Making the Creole Sauce

  1. 5

    Combine Sauce Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard until well combined. Set aside.

Grilling the Burgers

  1. 6

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

  2. 7

    Cook the Patties

Place the burger patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes.

  2. 9

    Build the Burger

Spread a generous amount of Creole sauce on the bottom half of the bun. Place the burger patty with melted cheese on top, followed by the sautéed onions and raw onion slices. Top with the other half of the bun.
