Potatoes

Oil for frying

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel the Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the potatoes to remove the skin.

  2. 2

    Cut the Potatoes

Once peeled, place the potatoes on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, cut each potato into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick to achieve the desired fry shape.

Soaking

  1. 3

    Soak the Cut Fries

Place the cut potato fries into a large bowl of cold water. Soak them for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch and will result in crispier fries.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps prevent the oil from splattering.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato fries to the hot oil. Fry in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Once fried, place the fries on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve the Fries

Transfer the seasoned fries to a serving platter or individual plates. Enjoy them hot with your favorite dipping sauces!
