1

Prepare glass (optional)

If you prefer a salted rim, spread the sea or smoked salt on a small plate. Moisten the rim of a rocks glass or coupe with a lime wedge, then gently roll the rim in the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

2

Build and shake

Fill a shaker halfway with ice. Add 2 oz reposado tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave nectar, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, 0.25 oz mezcal, and 2 dashes orange bitters to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted.

3

Strain and serve

Double-strain the mixture (using both the shaker strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into the prepared rocks glass over a large ice cube or into a chilled coupe if serving neat. This removes small ice shards and creates a smooth texture.

4

Garnish

Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and pinching it so the oils spray onto the surface. Rub the twist around the rim and drop or place a wheel or twist on the glass as a garnish.

5

Serve immediately. Sip and enjoy the balance of warm, mellow reposado with bright citrus, a touch of smoke from the mezcal, and subtle sweetness from the agave and orange liqueur.
