Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place an old-fashioned (rocks) glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you assemble the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Don Julio 1942, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz agave syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters.

3

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (the mixing glass should frost on the outside).

4

Prepare serving glass

Discard ice water from the chilled old-fashioned glass (if used), then place a single large clear ice cube into the glass.

5

Strain

Double-strain or fine-strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass over the large ice cube in the prepared old-fashioned glass to remove tiny ice shards and any pulp.

Garnish & Finish

6

Express lime oils

Take a lime wheel or a strip of lime peel and gently squeeze it over the cocktail to express the citrus oils across the surface, then rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink.

7

Optional flamed orange twist

If desired, hold a thin orange peel over the drink, skin side down, and briefly flame a peel (use a lighter or match) to release and caramelize the oils; then drop the twist into the cocktail.

8

Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly.
