In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined.

Prepare the Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up during cooking.

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until they reach your desired doneness.

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

While the cheese is melting, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown.

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, the cheesy patty, a slice of tomato, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
