Preparation of Pasta

Cook the Ziti
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the fresh ricotta, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and fresh basil (if using). Mix until well combined and set aside.

Assembling the Baked Ziti

Combine Ingredients
Preheat your wood-fired oven to around 450°F (232°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the tomato sauce. Mix until the pasta is evenly coated.

Layer the Ziti
In a large baking dish, spread half of the ziti mixture. Dollop half of the ricotta mixture over it, then sprinkle with half of the mozzarella. Repeat with the remaining ziti, ricotta, and top with the remaining mozzarella.

Bake the Ziti
Place the baking dish in the wood-fired oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. If using a conventional oven, bake at 375°F (190°C) for the same time.

Garnish and Serve
Remove the baked ziti from the oven and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
