Method

Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, crushing them with your hands or a spoon as you add them to the pot. Stir to combine.

  3. 3

    Season the Sauce

Add salt, sugar, oregano, black pepper, and basil to the tomato mixture. Stir well to distribute the spices evenly.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Allow it to simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

  2. 6

    Prepare the Pizza Base

Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness and transfer it to a pizza stone or baking sheet.

  3. 7

    Add Marinara Sauce

Spread a generous amount of the marinara sauce over the pizza base, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 8

    Add Cheese

Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the marinara sauce.

  5. 9

    Sprinkle Oregano

Sprinkle the additional dried oregano over the cheese for extra flavor.

  6. 10

    Bake the Pizza

Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

  7. 11

    Serve

Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
