Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Finely chop the onion and roasted red peppers. Remove the casing from the sweet Italian sausage and break it into small pieces.

Cooking

  1. 2

    Cook the Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, add the sweet Italian sausage. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.

  2. 3

    Add Vegetables

Once the sausage is cooked, add the chopped onion and roasted red peppers to the skillet. Stir and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the onion is translucent.

  3. 4

    Assemble the Dish

In a baking dish, layer the sausage mixture evenly. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the top, followed by the mozzarella cheese.

  4. 5

    Add Sesame

Finally, sprinkle the sesame seeds over the cheese layer for added texture and flavor.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your San Gennaro with crusty bread or as is!
