Sunday Sauce

Ricotta Layer

Method

Sunday Sauce

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sauce

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until fragrant and translucent. Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, mixing well.

  2. 2

    Season the Sauce

Add dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and fresh basil to the pot. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Meatballs

  1. 3

    Mix Ingredients

In a bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, eggs, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.

  2. 4

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.

  3. 5

    Cook Meatballs

In a skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, approximately 8-10 minutes. Transfer to the sauce.

Sausage

  1. 6

    Cook Sausage

In the same skillet, add Italian sausage links and cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 10-15 minutes. Slice them and add to the sauce.

Ricotta Layer

  1. 7

    Prepare Ricotta Mixture

In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.

Assembly and Topping

  1. 8

    Layer the Ingredients

In a large baking dish, spread a layer of Sunday sauce, then add meatballs and sausage, followed by the ricotta mixture. Top with remaining sauce.

  2. 9

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.

  3. 10

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
