Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Mortadella

Using a sharp knife, slice the mortadella into thin, even pieces. Aim for about 1/8 inch thickness for the best texture.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Garlic

Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. This will help release their flavor in the oil.

  3. 3

    Chop the Basil

Wash and dry the fresh basil leaves, then chop them coarsely.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until it shimmers. Be careful not to let it smoke.

  2. 5

    Sauté the Garlic

Add the chopped garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant. Do not let it brown.

  3. 6

    Add Mortadella

Carefully add the sliced mortadella to the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, allowing it to lightly crisp on one side.

  4. 7

    Season the Mortadella

Sprinkle the black pepper, smoked paprika, and salt over the mortadella. Toss gently to ensure even coating.

  5. 8

    Add Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil and cook for an additional 1 minute, just to wilt the basil.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

Transfer the cooked mortadella to a serving platter. Drizzle with a little extra olive oil if desired.

  2. 10

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish with additional basil leaves if desired, and serve warm or at room temperature.
