Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) with sugar and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well to ensure the salt is evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 7

    Shape the Knots

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, then roll each piece into a long rope (about 10 inches long). Tie each rope into a knot and tuck the ends underneath.

  3. 8

    Second Rise

Place the shaped knots on a greased baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  4. 9

    Bake

Bake the knots in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Garlic Butter Topping

  1. 10

    Prepare Garlic Butter

While the knots are baking, melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in chopped parsley and salt.

  2. 11

    Toss Knots in Butter

Once the knots are out of the oven, immediately brush or toss them in the garlic butter mixture until well coated.

Serving

  1. 12

    Serve

Serve the garlic knots warm, garnished with extra parsley if desired.
